Dr. Robert Van Gemert, MD

Born and raised in the mountains of Northern New Mexico provided me with a deep awareness and appreciation of the power and fulfillment of living in a region of diverse cultural influences.  It was a rural setting void of congestion, traffic, pollution, and serious crime. An area of marked natural beauty and lots of fresh air.  A setting not unlike the island of Moloka’i.

I earned my Bachelor’s and Medical Doctor’s degrees at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.  I went on from there to do a Family Practice Residency at University of California, Davis, satellite program in Merced, CA.  I realized at the end of my residency that California was not the place for me.  Western Colorado offered me the wonderful life style I had experienced in New Mexico.  I spent 33 years in private medical practice in Montrose, Colorado.

Beginning in 2008 my wife Laurie and I began vacationing on Moloka’i.  Each year we returned and felt an increasing love for the island.  Now we want to spend as much time as possible in this amazing place.  I feel very fortunate to have gain employment at the Moloka’i Community Health Center.  I look forward to serving the medical needs of the islanders.  My hobbies include fly fishing, hiking, and venturing out to explore new territory.

She then decided to stay on Molokai where she is currently raising her children along side her husband.

Shalei recently graduated with her degree in Medical Assisting from Kapiolani Community College.  She has been utilizing her skills and knowledge in the medical field for the past eight years and has recently left Molokai General Hospital where she has gained a tremendous amount of skills and knowledge.  Shalei enjoys what she does and hopes that one day she will be able to get her RN (registered nurse) degree.  Until then, she looks forward to seeing all of you and being of service to your `ohana.

Dr. Cynthia Greywolf, DNP-PMHCNS/NP, BC
Behavior Health Provider

I was born and raised in high desert of northern New Mexico and the Boston Mountains of southeastern Oklahoma. I spent most of my years growing up in rural Oklahoma practicing both traditional and Western ways. Oklahoma is the original home of six Indian tribes and the Cherokee were only one of many tribes that were relocated to Oklahoma in the mid-1800s. Rural Oklahoma will always be part of me and is still the home of my family and tribe.  Growing up there was a wonderful experience and it is where I developed a keen interest, love and appreciation for cultural diversity.

I originally moved to Oahu in 1986 and it has been my home with the exception of the time I spent in the Boston area completing my postgraduate education. When I originally arrived in Hawaii, I fell in love with it and was overwhelmed by the warm aloha and kindness of the people. Having grown up in rural areas, I have always wanted to live in rural Hawaii and Molokai is the perfect place. I am honored that I have the opportunity to serve the medical needs of this wonderful community.

I earned my bachelor’s of science in nursing (BSN) from the University of New Mexico. After several years of practicing as an RN, I completed a master’s degree in public and community health nursing and a certificate of advance graduate study (CAGS) in psychiatry at Northeastern University in Boston. In 2012, I completed a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree (DNP) at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Finally, in 2014 I completed a certificate in geriatric nursing education and my area of specialization is in adult and geriatric psychiatry
