Amanda Meatyard
Ikaika Teacher/Data Manager

Assesses, evaluates, and provides direct services to children birth to age three.  Manages Ikaika database; designed, implemented, and monitors MCHC developmental screening program.  Born and raised in Maryland; taught in Saipan before moving to Molokai.  She’s finishing up her Masters in Education, has two children, and has been with Family Support since 2006.  Considers being at MCHC an excellent opportunity to work directly with medical and behavioral health professionals, supporting the whole child.

Born on the Big Island of Hawaii but raised on Molokai where my roots have taken hold.

Graduated from Molokai High School Class of 1975, then joined the USAF, served my 4 year term and came home.
In March of 2004, I was hired on as a Case Manager and have been here now for 7years.  My job entails getting our patients to where they need to go for specialized professional care for their health care and well being.

I have been in the Health Professional career for more then 24 years.  Starting as a Ward Clerk for the MGH Women’s Heatlh Center and then at the Nursing Station.  Transferred to Business office after 6 years in the Nursing Dept. Have 20 years of billing experience and am now MCHC Outreach Eligibility Worker.

Sheries "Hana" Spencer
Wellness Educator/WIC local agency coordinator

Born and raised on Molokai, Sheries "Hana" Spencer has been with MCHC since September 2010. She has been a certified nurse aide for 6 years and has worked in medical clinical setting for 11 years in our community. She has experience as a Family Planning Health Educator and trained in Lactation Counseling. 

Tiana K.Y. Kawano

Born and raised on Molokai, Tiana first started as a Data Clerk/Family Support Aide with the Family Support Services Department. She was a Dental Assistant from April 2009 - May 2013.   She assisst in making appointments and accept payments.


Denise Houghtailing
Nurse Practitioner

Denise Houghtaling is the new permanent Nurse Practitioner at the Molokai Community Healthcare Center.  Denise has moved here from the Big Island and before that she lived in the Seattle area.  She has been board certified in Family Medicine since 2000. Before Denise became a Family Nurse Practitioner her specialty was trauma/emergency medicine working as a critical care air/ground transport nurse in Seattle and in Hawaii. Today, Denise is a member of Hawaii DMAT serving the country and treaty countries in rescue and saving lives.

She has received Masters’ degrees from University of Washington, Seattle Pacific University and Johns Hopkins University.  Denise is studying forensic nursing and has attained her Forensic Nurse Examiner credentials through Johns Hopkins University where she will be attaining her doctorate. She was recently published for her research work in The Journal of Trauma Nursing.

Denise’s husband, Greg is a firefighter with Hawaii County on the Big Island and they have two sons and one daughter. Recently, Denise and Greg have welcomed their 4th grandchild.

Denise likes to be outside whether its working in her garden or just enjoying the sunshine. She is active in Kempo karate and all outdoor water activities. Denise has an uncanny interest in fishing as well and states in all her years on the Big Island she has never caught a fish- she is hoping that her luck will change for her on Molokai! She has an AKC Champion Pug named Gracie who she shows at AKC dog shows.  Gracie is a Chinese Pug and is working towards her Grand Champion.

Rachel Abshire,CNA, Started working with the Molokai Community Health Center in September 2009 as a Medical Assistant. She now serves as your Patient Service Associate ready to assist you in any way possible, whether it’s making appointments with medical or behavioral health providers, collecting payments, or answering any questions you may have.  She is always willing to Help you in any way possible!

Heather joined Molokai Community Health Center in July 2011. She graduated from Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne with a degree in Dental Hygiene. Interested in working in a rural, underserved area she was excited to work in a community health atmosphere in beautiful Moloka'i.

Shyla has been serving as Dental Assistant since November 2010. She assist’s the dental director/dentist and dental hygienist in the care of and treatment of patients. Shyla is also available to assist in making appointments, accept payments and answer questions regarding treatment plans.  This Molokai girl is proud to be a part of this cohesive dental team
