Biography

Malia Waits is a kalo farmer, substitute teacher and dedicated community leader from Molokai. She serves on several community boards and has led initiatives in cultural education (Papa Kuʻi ʻAi workshops), ʻāina restoration (loʻi kalo and ʻauwai restoration), and Native Hawaiian self-determination as an ʻAha Kiole representative for Hālawa.

A proud member of the ʻAhahui Kaʻahumanu, one of Hawaii’s four Royal Benevolent Societies, Malia continues the legacy of Hawaiian women in faith, service, and civic leadership. Inspired by her father’s lifelong efforts to protect the waters for kalo farmers of Molokai, she remains deeply committed to the stewardship of ʻāina and wai, empowering her community through education, advocacy, and aloha ʻāina.
