James Rarick, MPH

Biography
James Rarick has over 35 years of experience running chronic disease prevention and control programs in the Asia-Pacific Region. James holds a B.Sc. degree in Dietetics and Food Administration from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo and a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Hawaii School of Public Health, and a Diploma from the California Public Health Institute’s California and Hawaii Public Health Leadership Course, 2008, with a focus on Social Determinants of Health and Health Equity.
James has held several positions at the Hawaii State Department of Health, and worked for several years as the Pacific Islands Liaison (for Hawaii/U.S.-Affiliated Pacific Islands) at the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Information Service, located at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center (formerly Cancer Research Center of Hawaii). He also has worked for the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for the Western Pacific Regional Office in Manila, Philippines, and in the WHO Cambodia country office.
James has lived with his wife Karla on Molokai since 2017 and continues part-time consulting in chronic disease prevention and health promotion projects. Dedicated to public service and enhancing the health and wellbeing of Molokai residents, James joined the Molokai Community Health Center Board in 2018, serving as Board Vice President from 2022-2023 and as Board President from 2023 to present.
